Book Title: Global Justice and Change
Subtitle: The Understory: Mapping the Roots of Our Global Systems and Crises In Order to Imagine Otherwise
Part 1: The UnderstoryPart 1 of this project is about what needs to change and what is changing. It focuses on naming and dissecting our current global systems and the root causes of our contemporary social issues. It aims to spotlight a system and logic of racial capitalism and colonialism that consumes everything in its path. In order to effect change together, we need to ensure that we have a common language, a way of talking about what it is that in fact needs to and is changing.
Part 2: The Overstory
Part 2 of this project is about how that change does and can occur. The implied theory of change here starts at the individual, internal level. The idea is that, to change our surroundings, the structures in which we exist and that are causing harm, we must first go inward. We must change ourselves. There may be some who read this that experience a very strong negative reaction or resistance to this very notion. You may not share this theory of change. If you are able, we ask you to note that feeling, to keep it with you while you continue forward. Part 2 will dig deeper into the self, the ego, and an exploration of the inner world as an essential means to understand and effect change in our external environment.
